OTMOM a year ago


While I was unpacking I stumbled on a copy of last Springs On the Minds of Moms magazine.
As I looked through I realized that this little magazine has made a major difference in my life and the lives of so many others. I want to send out a Thank you to Dani, Sheri, Ria and everyone on staff for all the work they do to make this a magazine something that helps others and shows the resiliency and generosity of women.

My husband suggested that I share my article on the blog since the hard copy touched so many. He has scanned it in so you could read it if you like. Just click each picture for a larger copy of the page.
It continues to be my hope that sharing my experiences others will find the courage to end the silence and share theirs.
Because only by speaking out and saying e we will not tolerate abuse in our homes anymore will we ever put an end to the best kept secret in our homes.

Volunteer work, under-roos & updates

I have been contacted recently asking me things such as: Why I have fallen off the blog-o-sphere. Isn't my Domestic Violence work important to me anymore? Did I only work my "platform" for the title? and on and on. First, let me clarify I don't do volunteer work of any kind simply to win a crown. If I wanted to run around in a glass hat so people would look at me and say "oh look isn't she pretty!" I would buy one on- line and have a sash made, it would be less work and expense. The crown is a great tool and if I happen to be chosen to represent the system and win the crown then I will happily promote the pageant system WHILE I continue to volunteer and work my platform. I don't need the crown to make a difference and in all honesty neither does anyone else. Now then let me tell you why I have not updated in quite some time. Dating Violence..... My story

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month and this is my story of survival....... He was 6’2 and looked like he belonged on the walls of Abercrombie and Fitch with his wavy espresso colored hair, milk chocolate eyes, and rock-hard abs. He was affectionate, funny, smart, quick-witted, and dating me! For two years I was part of the “perfect high school couple.” You know, the kind they use to sell shampoo, teeth whitening strips, zit cream--anything that will make life as a teen better than it, supposedly, already is.
