Tweeting for the victims.

As many of my regular readers know we moved from North Dakota to Ohio this year and with it my work with relationship violence moved too. Although it is taking me a while to get involved with local organizations in the area, I have discovered my work with National Organizations like Love is not abuse and MADE have opened dialogues in some of the most unexpected places; facebook, myspace, church.
People have been coming to me sharing their stories. Barb, Jen, Emma, Sharon these are just some of the women that have come forward and shared their personal or family abuse experiences. Experiences that range from personal escape stories, to loved ones looking for resources to help a loved one find the courage and means of escape, to parents using resources to teaching their children that abuse and violence of any kind are not acceptable. Stories as varied and as real as a the women who lived them and another reminder that the statistics are real. Every 15 seconds someone is abused*, 1 in 3 women are a victim of violence*, 1 in 5 teens is in a abusive relationship* and 1 in 6 men are victims of domestic violence* *as reported by Break the Cycle. This is reality. So what do we do to change it? We take action! We empower ourselves with knowledge so we can help those in need and we find creative ways to raise awareness and fund to help victims.

Click to Empower has found away to do both and I'm asking you to help them. This week is Tweet week. July 6- July 16 for every tweet that uses the tag #Tweet4YWCA Click to Empower and the All State Foundation are donating a dollar to the YWCA to help victims of relationship violence. The goal is $75,000 at the time of this post $30,000 had been earned. It is a small thing. So many of us Tweet numerous times a day imagine how much good we could be doing by adding a simple tag line to our Tweets. Please if you are already tweeting help us help others. You may never see the face of who you help but I promise you will be changing lives and helping to break the cycle of abuse in our homes.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month and this is my story of survival....... He was 6’2 and looked like he belonged on the walls of Abercrombie and Fitch with his wavy espresso colored hair, milk chocolate eyes, and rock-hard abs.
