I received the following email from the MADE organization today:
Dear MADE Members,

As part of the Love Is Not Abuse initiative, we are always looking to partner up with high school students and young survivors of teen dating abuse for our Teen Task Force. In the wake of the recent tragedy at the University of Virginia, we have been reaching out to colleges and universities across the country in an effort to educate and stop dating violence on their campuses.

As part of this outreach to colleges and universities, we’d like to start expanding the Teen Task Force beyond teens to be able to include college students. Our goal is to work with teens and young adults who can speak about the need for dating abuse education and can comment on what they see in relationships among their peers, when needed.

If you know a high school or college student (or both!) who you think is interested in joining the Task Force, please contact us at made@liz.com.

Dating Violence..... My story

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month and this is my story of survival....... He was 6’2 and looked like he belonged on the walls of Abercrombie and Fitch with his wavy espresso colored hair, milk chocolate eyes, and rock-hard abs. He was affectionate, funny, smart, quick-witted, and dating me! For two years I was part of the “perfect high school couple.” You know, the kind they use to sell shampoo, teeth whitening strips, zit cream--anything that will make life as a teen better than it, supposedly, already is. The truth, however, was far different than the picture we were selling. In reality, my picture-perfect boyfriend was mean, demanding, abusive, and no one knew.
